RIP 2008

Ex Sabres goalie, Dominik Hasek, was drafted by the Chicago Blackhawks in 1983. He played in Buffalo from 1992-2001. Hasek’s unusual yet winning goaltending style earned him the nickname “dominator” by fans and teammates. While with the Sabres, he‘s taken home several awards including but not limited to the Vezina, appeared in countless All-Star games as well as the Olympics, and lead the league in shut outs. When visiting Buffalo, the Dominator visits his youth hockey program called “Hasek’s Heroes” and… wait. He’s still alive? He just won the Stanley Cup and is finally retiring? Oh.

[I had to add the press conference. I love his accent.]

Moving on.

The Sabres and Portland Pirates have announced their new romance ending Buffalo’s twenty-nine seasons (longest NHL-AHL affiliate) tenure with the Rochester Americans. Adios, Amerks. You’ve raised some of our best [and hottest] players! You will be missed. Washington and Anaheim were previous affiliates of the Pirates. The Ducks new AHL team is in Des Moines, Iowa. Portland is still under the Anaheim site, but the Sabres and Pirates have both changed theirs to the present.

So far, everyone in the soccer world has commented about Cristiano Ronaldo’s future. His mom says he’s staying with Manchester. His siblings have recently commented about him always wanting to play for Real Madrid. David Beckham gave his advice by warning him to stay with his team. His model/clubbing/probably still topless girlfriend has no idea what’s going on. Mommy and Becks always know what’s best, but I tend to believe the siblings. They know more. There was also the interview of Ronaldo talking about Madrid and was taken out of context. The media never does that. I’m holding down my position that he stays with Manchester United. Although, if it’s his dream to play for Madrid, own it [later]. Just don’t piss off your fan base/managers/teammates/coaches. He should really come to Toronto. He can bring more attention to soccer in the surrounding areas [wink wink], just like David Beckham did. Oh, right…

Well, most importantly, he would be closer to us. I’m all for that.
